My Work
Here are some examples of pieces I have written in my undergrad career at Humboldt State University. I chose a few different types of writing that include research papers, literary response, creative writing and application of concepts. I have also included my resume to show what I have done to get to this point in my life.
Chap Book: This is a compilation of writing that I completed during a Creative Writing class in Fall of 2016. This project had to be between eight and forty pages that applied the principles we discussed in class regarding flash fiction, concrete details, defamiliarization, concision, and best practices in sequencing a manuscript. I wrote two stories that work together and can stand by themselves. The first is a therapy journal of a girl that starts when she is four and ends when she is twenty-two, not every age is in the Chap Book, but there are seven different ages that depict different stages of her life. The second is a collection of body image stories that don't have a specific character telling these stories but are more meant for people to reflect on their own feelings about their body and how other people could feel about theirs. Climate Change of Napa Valley: This is a Research Paper for a Forestry class in Fall of 2016 in which we needed to write about a type of tree, shrub, forest, or woodland in California and how a specific part of Climate Change affects it. I chose to write about the grape vines in the Napa Valley and how temperature increase and weather change affected the growing and production of wine. We needed to use terminology we had learned over the semester and research the topic in depth to show what we had learned and what was important to us. Lesbianism Invisibility: This is an essay for a Practical Criticism class in Spring of 2016 in which I needed to write about a story we had read and choose any topic that interested us that we had talked about in class and apply it to the story. I found Lesbianism Invisibility in text to be a very compelling essay topic and was able to find many examples in the story we read. Kitsch: This is an essay about the topic Kitsch, I wrote it for a Philosophy class in the Fall of 2015. The essay needed to discuss what Kitsch is and how it affects the art world. It also had to use concepts that we had discussed over the semester in order to really delve into the philosophical side of the art world and show what we had learned in the class. |
